Welcome!

Rise and Shine Youth Retreat is a rejuvenation center for the enrichment and liberation of Black people in Maine and beyond.

Have you heard?

We’re expanding!! Not only do we host retreats for teenagers, we provide cooperative housing, retreats for young children, retreats for adults, outdoor programs and our newest project, a plant share!

We’ve accomplished so much in the past 6 years and we are now ready for our greatest undertaking.

The community house is at capacity and we are still in high demand for retreats and housing.

With that, we must ensure that the current residents are safe and comfortable this Winter. We will make small structural updates to the house to increase sustainability, reduce pests and induce security and ease. Lastly, we are excited to announce that we will be creating more lodging at the center and we need your help to make it all happen!

Maine Initiatives has already supported this expansion with $5,000 to stipend BIPOC community members who help us get started on structural updates over the summer.

The first 5k raised for this official fundraiser launch will be matched by The For Us, By Us Fund!!

We are too thrilled about this and we still have a ways to go.

About

Rise and Shine Youth Retreat highlights the voices and responds to the emotional needs, creativity and well being of Black, Indigenous, People of Color.

Our mission is to foster meaningful relationships between Black people and nature through cooperative living, wellness retreats, residences, and outdoor exploration/celebration.

We provide a space for folks to awaken their senses, a place for gathering, a place that embraces our diverse cultures, a place where we can embrace the ways that we speak without code switching. A place where people of color explore the woods and not feel like we are on white territory. A place to relax and be free.

Community

How are we navigating the pandemic?

It’s challenging! Folks still love to visit the farm in small social distancing groups. All activities take place outside.

Currently, we are not making and sharing products together.

With the rise of violence, gentrification and COVID 19, more Black folx are being pushed out of their homes and are in search of safety and security.

Stage II of our expansion will allow us to help Black community members by providing lodging in one of our usable barns on the land.

Being on the land and surrounded by nature has helped us tremendously as we await what’s next in this mysterious time.

Your support is greatly appreciated.
